Gifts to the Alumni Fund can provide support where it is needed most

You can fund scholarships

The Alumni Fund supports a wide range of scholarships including our Gold Scholarship Programme, Sanctuary Scholarships and arts and sports scholarships.

Gold Scholarships

Gold Scholarships aim to ensure that circumstances are no barrier to a Bath education, whether that be low family income, disability or mental health issues. Each Gold Scholarship is funded by a gift of £3,000 per year from our donors, supplemented by an additional package of support valued at £2,000 per year from the University.

Many of our scholars are the first in their family to attend university and wouldn't have the chance to attend without the gifts received from our generous Alumni.

"It is possible for someone like me to go to university.”

Ciara (BSc Management)

Our Sanctuary Scholarship provides support to students seeking asylum in the UK, helping to remove barriers that may otherwise prevent them from receiving further education from the University.

Arts Scholarships give talented students the space to explore their passions, whether that's music, arts or theatre. Our art scholars also perform at Platform, our annual showcase event.

Sports scholarships offer a vote of confidence in a young athlete at the beginning of their career. They alleviate the pressures of competing while studying, helping elite athletes afford equipment, competition travel, entry fees and accommodation.

"Knowing that support network is there, all the services that the University offers, gave me a great deal of confidence and allowed me to focus purely on becoming the best performer I can be." (Tom Dean, mechanical engineering student and double Olympic gold medal-winning swimmer)

You can support SU clubs and societies

The Alumni Fund provides an annual grant of £25,000 to SU Bath to help fund equipment and activities for clubs and societies. In recognition of the difficulties students face, the SU and Alumni Fund have joined up to create an access fund that helps support students with their experiences, wellbeing and personal development. This could include but is not limited to; attendance at an event in which the student is representing the University, a conference where they will gain knowledge and skills or an item of equipment that is a necessity for their involvement in an activity.

You can provide a lifeline to students facing financial hardship

Thanks to donations to the Alumni Fund, students in financial difficulty can be awarded grants providing urgent help for basic living costs including rent, food, energy and travel. The Alumni Fund has committed to support the Financial Support Fund in the next academic year with a grant of £10,000.

You can provide the opportunity for a career-defining placement

Your gift can help pay for placement grants for students who would otherwise be unable to accept an unpaid or low paid placements, especially those in the charitable, education and NHS sectors.

You can help innovative research get off the ground

The Alumni Fund awards grants that can have a pivotal role in helping a project get started and secure the initial results it needs, enabling it to later secure more funding.

Some recent examples of project funding support -

  • Deepen understanding of children's experience of receiving and using prosthetic limbs with the aim of improving clinical practice and address higher rejection rates compared to adults
  • Investigating the effect of temperature on the performance of lithium-ion battery packs
  • Exploring the link between Type 2 Diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease

A donation to the Alumni Fund today can help support all these vital projects and many more, thank you.
